MASSAGE: Nourishing the tissues
Ayurveda offers many treatments that both reduce symptoms and treat the cause. It also recognises that sometimes we just need to be nourished.
Click on the links below to discover more about the massage styles and treatments offered. I look forward to seeing you on the table for a treatment in the near future.
The Mardana (deep)
$ 120 | 120 mins table time
While this isn't a traditional Mardana massage, I have encorporated the philosophy of Ayurveda into a unique style to create what I feel is a balancing and restorative therapy.
Long strokes and sustained pressure are used to relieve tension in the deeper tissues. The work is focussed through the fingers to release and separate tight muscles and congested fascia, allowing the energy to flow. This massage is ideal for those who prefer "deep pressure" treatments and those who have specific areas that require attention.
This two hour massage includes significant work on the back and shoulders and provides whole body nourishment. Pacifying pressure on the abdomen makes this massage ideal for those suffering from digestive complaints or menstrual discomfort while the continuous pressure can alleviate fibromyalgia or fibromyalgia-like pain.
Contraindications include swollen or painful joints, injuries to the skin, pregnancy, children under 18, emaciated people and lipoma sufferers.
The Snehana (restorative)
$ 85 | 90 mins table time
A therapeutic and calming treatment where oil is applied in a rhythmic motion to the entire body. The pressure is firm but not deep.
An ideal massage for those looking unwind, relax and restore. A therapy where the external movement along the skin balances the internal movement of energy, calming and balancing.
The Snehana is beneficial for the blood and plasma. Depending on the pressure it may also benefit the muscle and adipose tissue. The Snehana is also effective at relieving the symptoms of PMS.
TREATMENTS: Balacing, building, strengthening
In addition to massage, Ayurveda offers a multitude of therapies that provide relief to specific pains or issues we may be experiencing. I have undertaken internships to train in these therapies and am offering a select few for those who seek additional relief and/or pampering.
Traditionally the following therapies are applied after a massage. This is of particular benefit if an area is rigid or in spasm as the massage helps to release the muscles and open the pores.
Kati Basti (lower back)
$ 60 | + 40 mins
This treatment supports the entire Kati (a sanskrit word to mean sacrum, lumbar vertebrae, hips). Medicated hot oil is applied slowly into a 'dam' surrounding the sacral area. The oil is left to be absorbed into the area where the medicines are able to be most effective.
Kati Basti is indicated for chronic lower back pain, lumbago, sciatic nerve irritation, ilio-sacral joint spasm and ankylosing spondylosis. This treatment is effective at rebuilding the disc material in young people and helps to lesser effect with aging.
Contraindications include tumors in the lumbar region, tuberculous spondylitis, pregnancy, menstruation (unless it is mild with little discomfort), spina bifida and lumbar spondylosis.
Manya Basti (cervical spine)
$ 60 | + 40 mins
This treatment is applied similarly to Kati Basti but the 'dam' is placed over the cervical spine. Medicated oil is then applied to the area where it can affect the necessary tissues.
Manya Basti is beneficial for neck pain or stiffness in the neck. This treatment is also beneficial for arm pain where the pain is referred from the cervical spine
Contraindications include cervical tumors, cervical rib (congenital), extreme dizziness and pregnancy.
Uro Basti (heart)
$ 60 | + 40 mins
The therapy of Uro Basti works primarily on the heart, lungs and emotions.
Without getting too technical, emotional repression is stored around Anahata Chakra (where the heart is located) and this region of the body needs lubrication in order to release the emotions. Uro Basti assists in lubricating Avalambaka Kapha and encourages Ama (toxins) to be removed.
This therapy is indicated for peri-arthritis and for post-operative cardiac patients (once the scar has fulled healed).
Contraindications for this therapy include pericarditis, pleurisy, severe cough and breastfeeding.
